Toms and snare fitted with Remo “Ambassador” heads — all coated skins, no pinstripe or smooth heads.
Bass drum must be fitted with two coated Remo “Emperor” heads, front and back.
- Definitely NOT Remo “Powerstroke” or “Powersonic” heads, or Evans heads.
- NO dampening rings, padding or stuffing of any kind in the bass drum, NO hole in the front head.
Drums heads are THE most important thing:
We have had many problems with backline companies ignoring or saying it is difficult to fill the bass drum head requirements. While most companies have kits fitted for rock music with different head-specs that do not work for us, Emperor heads are not obscure and are easily sourced. For clarity, here is what is required — Thomann Music Failure to fulfil this requirement will seriously compromise our music and performance and may impact the concert taking place.
Bass Amp
Preferably: Gallien Krueger 400RB, 800RB or 1001RB.
Otherwise: Laney RB9,Trace Elliott,Ampeg, SWR (but NOT SM-900 or SM-1500), Euphonic, Markbass, Aguilar AG 700 (but NOT Tone Hammer series or DB series).
Bass Speaker
4×10ʺ Speaker Box
Preferably: Hartke
Otherwise: Ampeg, SWR, Trace Elliot, Markbass, Bergantino, Hughes & Kettner, EV, JBL, Peavey, Laney, Aguilar NOT Gallien Krueger.
Bass bin to be placed on small riser, about 18” / 45cm — a beer crate or a small road case is usually fine.
Contrabass
(Required for ALL performances unless you are notified otherwise):
- 3/4 to full size 4-string acoustic contrabass in good working order, with extendable tail-pin of sufficient length as to allow instrument to be played standing up by 182 cm (6 foot) tall player.
- Jazz strings (prefer gut on G and D) and setup, not classical.
- Prefer “D” neck. Preferably fitted with Fishman Full Circle or David Gage Realist transducer, but will also bring a clip-on transducer to be safe.
Lloyd will bring his own bow (and if the instrument has a bow quiver, please leave it on).
Any questions, please contact Lloyd Swanton in plenty of time.
